IAM4RE.eu Project Kick-off: A Strategic Step Forward in Intellectual Asset Valorisation

Press release, April 9, 2025 - The Intellectual Asset Management for Research and Entrepreneurship project, abbreviated as IAM4RE.eu project, was officially launched on 1 April 2025. To mark the start of the initiative and bring all consortium members together along with EU representatives, a kick-off meeting was held on 9 April 2025, providing a collaborative space to align on objectives and set the foundation for successful implementation.

The project aims to redefine entrepreneurship in the European research and innovation landscape by placing the spotlight on the valorisation and standardisation of intellectual assets (IAs) within Public Research Organisations (PROs) and Academic Institutions (AcIs). In doing so, it addresses a critical gap in early-stage IA management, which is essential for enabling the formation and growth of research-based spin-offs and for fostering a more strategic approach to knowledge valorisation. IAM4RE.eu signals a clear shift from traditional intellectual property (IP) management to a more holistic framework of IA management. Rather than focusing solely on protection and commercialisation, the project prioritises value creation, long-term institutional capacity, and alignment with EU guidelines and Codes of Practice.

As it was pointed out by representatives of European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) that joined the meeting project perfectly aligns with the Commission efforts to tackle the innovation paradox and low valorisation of research results. Despite the fact that Guiding principles on Knowledge valorisation and Codes of practices are giving orientation on activates and tools they might adopt to boost knowledge valorisation we are still lacking practical implementation and IAM4RE.eu will convergate some of the principles in the concrete tools.

We were pleased to welcome also a representative from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), who shared valuable insights into the agency’s operational framework and outlined key expectations regarding project management and reporting requirements.

To support the transition from IP to IA, IAM4RE.eu will develop a suite of modular educational resources, including training suites, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and a "train-the-trainer" programme. These will be complemented by practical tools and policy guidelines tailored to the needs of PROs and AcIs. The project’s approach will be tested in real-world settings, with a strong focus on scalability and sustainability.

This initiative is strongly aligned with the strategic objectives of RISE - Research and Innovation Services, which participates in IAM4RE.eu alongside its sister company EURICE. As part of our broader commitment to strengthening the European innovation ecosystem, RISE is actively engaged in complementary initiatives such as the EU IP Helpdesk, the Impact Licensing Initiative, and various capacity-building efforts. These endeavours share a common goal: to raise awareness, build institutional and individual capacities, and provide tools that help turn research results into tangible and strategically managed assets.

"At RISE, we see IAM4RE.eu as a natural extension of our long-term mission to empower research organisations with the tools, frameworks, and capacities they need to manage intellectual assets strategically," said Gabrijela Radić, Managing Director of RISE." By adding new resources, tools, and mentoring programmes, we’re expanding the support available to stakeholders within impact-oriented innovation ecosystems, helping them make smarter use of their intellectual assets."

The IAM4RE.eu consortium brings together a group of experienced organisations with recognised expertise in intellectual asset management, entrepreneurship, and innovation policy. In addition to RISE and EURICE, the consortium includes META GROUP SRL and META BE, Trust-IT Services and COMMpla srl, ASTP, the University of Belgrade Faculty of Organisational Sciences, and Vilnius University. Project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe call HORIZON-CL4-2024-HUMAN-02-35 and will run over the next 24 months.
