VOICE at Ars Electronica 2025: Knowledge Valorisation Through Co-Creation

At Ars Electronica 2025 (3–7 September, Linz), the VOICE project (Valorising Artist-Led Innovation Through Citizen Engagement) showcased how artistic practice can become a driver of knowledge valorisation and societal resilience. Within the festival’s overarching theme “PANIC – yes/no”, VOICE participated with its workshop, The VOICE Assembly – “The Quiet Commons, Listening Through Panic”.

Co-organised by Martina Radanović, Senior Project Manager at RISE – Research and Innovation Services, and Dr Anita McKeown from FutureFocus21c, together with other VOICE partners, the event invited participants to pause and imagine alternative ways of responding to crisis - not with panic, but with care, listening, and co-creation.

As leader of the Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation (CDE) work package, RISE, together with its sister company EURICE, ensures that VOICE’s results extend far beyond the project itself. By transforming artistic practice and research into actionable insights and innovative tools, VOICE contributes directly to the EU’s knowledge valorisation agenda, ensuring that project outcomes are translated into lasting societal and environmental impact.

The Ars Electronica Festival’s wider programme also highlighted how the European Union fosters creativity and innovation through initiatives like Horizon Europe, the New European Bauhaus, and Creative Europe. Panels also focused on art’s role in mental health, medical education, and social resilience, timely topics in an age of uncertainty.

About the VOICE project

The VOICE project is a Horizon Europe initiative that brings together partners from six countries and artists across Europe. Its mission is to transform artistic creativity into innovative responses to challenges such as biodiversity loss, food waste, and plastic pollution. By connecting art, technology, research, and civic action, VOICE demonstrates how knowledge valorisation can translate abstract ideas into tangible solutions.

By fostering collaboration across disciplines and borders, the project contributes to a more resilient, sustainable, and imaginative Europe.
