Connecting Research and Patients: RISE at the miGut-Health Symposium on World IBD Day

On 19 May, the miGut-Health consortium marked World IBD Day by organising the international symposium “Diet, Stress and Lifestyle as Risk Factors in Inflammatory Bowel Disease” in Cremona, Italy. The hybrid event brought together leading researchers, clinicians, patient representatives and stakeholders to discuss the latest scientific advances related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with a particular focus on prevention, nutrition, mental health and lifestyle factors. Hosted by the EngageMinds HUB at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, the symposium welcomed participants both onsite and online and featured presentations from internationally recognised experts in the field of IBD, microbiome research, nutrition and psychology.

Organising the symposium on World IBD Day highlighted the importance of raising awareness about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, conditions that affect millions of people worldwide. Participants wore purple ribbons throughout the event to mark World IBD Day and show solidarity with the millions of people worldwide living with inflammatory bowel disease. Throughout the event, speakers emphasised the importance of multidisciplinary approaches to prevention and care, as well as the need to collaborate closely with people living with IBD to ensure their real needs are met.

Antonija Zrno Ćulap, our Research and Impact Manager, and Valentina Guštin, miGut-Health Communications Manager, attended the event. Within the miGut-Health project, RISE, together with our sister company EURICE, leads the communication, dissemination and exploitation activities as well as project management activities. A key aspect of our work is the close collaboration with patient representatives, particularly the International Federation of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis Associations (IFCCA). Through this cooperation, the consortium aims to ensure that new knowledge emerging from the project reaches the people whose quality of life it can truly improve.
